IDC Anymore!!!
A Creative Break Through?
Hey Peeps! It’s been a while since I’ve posted on SubStack. Life has been life’n, and to handle the emotional highs and lows, I’ve started prioritizing my mental health. For me, this meant taking stock of what’s working in my life, identifying what isn’t, and making adjustments. During this process, I started practicing the law of detachment, letting go of my need to control outcomes.
Like most artists, I’m sensitive to certain things—I feel deeply. So, when life became overwhelming, I knew I needed to take a step back from everything.
After some soul-searching and a mindset reset, I came to a powerful realization:
I Don’t Care Anymore.
Not about my artistry or creative pursuits, but about how I present them to the world.
For the longest time, I thought building an audience meant churning out project after project, staying on the content treadmill to stay relevant. But that’s not how I work. I thrive on taking my time, savoring the creative process between projects. To balance both worlds, I started batch-collecting my work, saving it in folders to release strategically.
But somewhere along the way, that strategy backfired. Projects I was once excited about started to feel stale. I overthought them to the point where they never made it out of the folder on my LaCie drive (Thanks analysis paralysis). I convinced myself no one else would like them either—or life simply got in the way, and they stayed on the back burner.
Then earlier this week, I had a breakthrough. I realized I Don’t Care Anymore. I don’t care about algorithms, posting schedules, trends, or any of the noise. I don’t care if people like my work or even see it. All I care about is creating. Whoever is meant to find it will find it.
And just like that, I felt free.
So, here’s my plan: I’m unloading the clip.
Every creative project I’ve been holding on to, I’m unleashing into the world—starting now.
First up is this:
Over a year ago, I created From Script to Screen: Mastering Indie Film Creation and Funding. It’s an 81-page workbook packed with checklists, templates, and step-by-step guidance to help aspiring filmmakers create and fund their indie films from start to finish. This project was truly a labor of love. It’s everything I wish I’d had when I was first starting out as a filmmaker. It guides artists from everything to consider from idea generation in Pre-Production all the way to Distribution and beyond. It also has detailed breakdown of how to finance your film projects.
Keep in mind, this workbook is just a guide. For a deeper dive, I’ll be sharing more on YouTube, TikTok, SubStack, and/or Patreon. I created it with the hope that it helps other inspiring artists in the indie film space.
*Wipes forehead* “Okay, Chantal, the hard part is done. The project is created, released, and ready to promote. What the hell was I nervous about? I created something to help the world through my art and I’m proud of it!”
Now, I can get back to what truly matters—creating for the joy of it and building my creative empire.
Thanks for being here and for witnessing this new chapter. Let’s see where this freedom takes us.
—Chantal
